Airfuge* Ultracentrifuges, Beckman Coulter*
This compact ultracentrifuge is a versatile and convenient benchtop unit. A variety of rotors make the Airfuge ideal for applications such as receptor-binding studies, lipoprotein assays, chylomicron studies, sample preparation for electron microscopy, and clarification of lipemic samples.
The Airfuge is air turbine-driven and delivers results in a fraction of the time of larger units. The combination of high g-force and short path length results in remarkably short run times to produce results. An optional digital speed readout accessory is available for advanced speed readout. Runs can be timed from 0–300 minutes in 5 minute increments; a HOLD button can be used for longer runs.
The speed is air-pressure regulated and braking is first achieved by coasting, then friction braking by engagement of the brake pin. The rotor operates at a temperature a few degrees above ambient.
